Elisabeth Van Bockstaele, PhD, founding dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies of the College of Medicine will present the newly-established Dean’s Distinguished Alumnus Award to Robert Rissman, PhD ’02.
Dr. Rissman, associate professor of Neurosciences at UC San Diego, will speak briefly on his work in the diagnosis and prediction of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) through the use of blood-based biomarkers. The purpose of this biomarker research is to develop methods to more readily diagnose AD and detect it as early as possible. By developing more accurate methods for diagnosing AD in the blood, doctors can get patients enrolled more quickly into clinical trials.
